History

Sengoku 3 (released in Japan as Sengoku Denshou 2001) is the absolute masterpiece of the beat 'em up genre on the Neo Geo. Developed by Noise Factory during the console's twilight years, it abandoned the strange transformation mechanics of its predecessors to focus on a complex combo system, cancels, and special weapon attacks that feel closer to a versus fighting game. Featuring four initial characters and two unlockable ones, it offers massive sprites, superb animations, and addictive co-op play. Because it was released in 2001 during the twilight of cartridge home systems, very few AES units were sold, making it an extremely rare and prohibitively expensive collector's item.
