Plaion delays the Neo Geo AES+ to September 16, 2027
A tough blow: the worldwide launch slips to 2027 because of global component shortages. The good news: pre-orders stay guaranteed, with no price increase, and the first batch will carry a Founding Supporters bonus.

There is no nice way to put it: the Neo Geo AES+ is not coming this year. Plaion has issued an official PLAION REPLAI statement confirming that the worldwide launch moves to September 16, 2027, almost a full year after the date we had been circling on the calendar for months.
For anyone who has been counting the days since the announcement, it is a cold shower. We will say it as fans, without sugar-coating it: this one hurts.
Why the delay
The reason Plaion gives is global component supply constraints. According to the statement, the response to the console has been "extraordinary", but they simply cannot manufacture enough units to deliver the worldwide launch the community deserves.
The alternative was shipping in November with very limited availability — a handful of units, instant sell-outs and scalper pricing on the secondary market. Instead, they have chosen to take more time to scale up production, secure the necessary components and invest in a more ambitious future for the platform.
If you have lived through any retro hardware launch in recent years, you know exactly how the other option would have ended.
Your pre-order still stands
This is the part that will reassure anyone who has already paid:
- If you have already placed your pre-order, it remains guaranteed and keeps its priority.
- There will be no price increase.
- No action is required on your side: no re-ordering, no confirmation, no contacting the shop.
The queue you are in is the queue you stay in, one year later.
And if you never got round to pre-ordering, the console and the Anniversary Edition are still up at the same price.
The "Founding Supporters" bonus
As a thank-you for the patience, Plaion has announced that every console shipped during the initial launch production run will include a "Founding Supporters" Bonus.
They have not detailed what it is yet — a cartridge? a physical collector's extra? something numbered? — and that is exactly where the hype starts rebuilding itself. Tying the bonus to the initial production run turns an early pre-order into something that will have its own forum lore a few years from now.
One more year of waiting... and of anticipation
Looked at coldly, the delay also buys time: more room to polish the hardware, to widen the launch line-up and to have the console arrive in real quantities instead of in drips. An AES+ that sells out in two minutes serves nobody but the scalpers.
The launch line-up cartridges keep their pre-orders under the new date, so there are twelve more months to fill the shelf without rushing.
Plaion closes its statement with a sincere apology, acknowledging that this is a significant delay. On our side, the site countdown and every product page have already been updated to the new date.
See you on September 16, 2027. One more year of waiting for a console we have been waiting thirty years for: we will survive.
